During a journey to Svaneti, I was deeply impressed by Fridon Nizharadze’s story, his art, and a photograph of him. I saw how deeply his spirit and creative work were bound to his roots. I brought back a fragment of Svanetian rock and later painted his portrait on it.
It seemed to me that his face belonged not on canvas, but on stone — a stone shaped by the same land that shaped the artist himself.
